We use high-quality FAS and Select Grade hard maple in the construction of each butcher block countertop. After the countertop is hand-crafted by one of our skilled woodworkers and stained with a rich, dark brown color, we then finish it with three coats of a conversion varnish. This process allows the natural beauty of the wood to shine through while adding to the durability of the piece. First, we apply the stain to the top, sides, edges and underneath. Then three coats of our catalyzed conversion varnish are applied to the top surface and two everywhere else. The stain adds a beautiful color and the varnish adds a semi gloss look that is hard and durable.
